CarMax

Designing at Scale

Overview

Recently, I’ve been designing for two different product spaces. My main focus is Dealer Management, a newly formed team working to stand up a new instance of Salesforce.  I also support the newly formed Logistics program by helping to improve the usability of internal tools and designing experiments.

My growth at CarMax has been huge to say the least! Be sure to check out my case study decks linked below.

Dealer Management

When I joined, the Dealer Management team consisted of my PM and an idea. We were tasked with building out a Salesforce instance from scatch. I’ve had two guiding initiatives. Learn as much as I can about CarMax associates serving B2B lines of business and understand how Salesforce can be best utilized. I was dropped into a new space, with a new team, working on a completely new-to-me platform. It’s been a huge period of growth for me to say the least!
Through extensive interviews and observations, I’ve developed B2B associate design targets. I’ve used this foundational research to inform enterprise architecture decisions — truly designing at a scale I’ve never encountered before. We’ve recently launched our MVP and are rapidly iterating and expanding.

Logistics at CarMax

Traditionally not a product organization, Logistics is being modernized at CarMax. As the first designer in the space, I’ve done my best to bring experimental thinking with me. I’ve helped to design tests aimed at improving the transfer times of vehicles across CarMax’s network of stores. I’ve pitched in to improve the usability of internal tools and worked hard to help leadership identify future product design opportunities.
